Your Chances of Admission to WashU After Being Waitlisted
After combing through the data, you might notice that WashU is slightly inconsistent on the waitlist statistics reported yearly to The Common Data Set.
There are years in which WashU releases the total number of waitlisted students, the total number of students who accept slots on the waitlist, and the total number of students accepted off the waitlist.
Yet there are other years in which WashU cryptically reports only the number of students accepted off the waitlist who choose to enroll — a data point most highly selective universities don’t include in their waitlist admissions figures (even though they typically report more waitlist admissions figures overall than WashU).
Your Chances of Admission to WashU After Being Waitlisted with Ivy Coach’s Help
Over the last 30 years, around 32% of students who first come to Ivy Coach after being placed on the Washington University in St. Louis waitlist earn admission. Our 32% figure includes years in which WashU admits zero students off its waitlist — as it did for the Classes of 2026, 2019, 2017, and 2015.
In short, when WashU turns to its waitlist, Ivy Coach’s students do incredibly well. Yet when WashU doesn’t turn to its waitlist, our students, naturally, don’t get in either. Duh!
So why does Ivy Coach have such success with WashU’s waitlist? It boils down to Ivy Coach’s method developed over three decades of optimizing a student’s chances for admission after being placed in dreaded limbo. Ours is a two-step process that goes as follows:
- Complete Ivy Coach’s PostMortem application review. We must see what a student did both right as well as what they did wrong. The narrative we help craft can’t be out of left field. Instead, it needs to be consistent with the story conveyed in The Common Application and WashU supplement — just told much more compellingly (and we hope you wrote many of the WashU scholarship essays since they were an opportunity for you to further elaborate on your story — even if the scholarships weren’t of incredible interest to you!).
- Submit a powerful Letter of Continued Interest. Most students know they should submit a letter after being placed on a college’s waitlist if they hope to earn admission. And most know they should send in that letter promptly. Yet most students send the wrong kind of letter. Ivy Coach’s letters to WashU offer up no brags or updates. They’re love letters to the school, filled with specific after specific that only apply to WashU (and, no, name-dropping professors or classes don’t count!). Our letters inspire WashU admissions officers to root for our students!
